But lets tackle the most asked question about 925 silver rings.
HOW TO PREVENT YOUR 925 SILVER RING FROM FADING OR TARNISHING?
It's simple. KEEP. THEM. DRY. BOO.
- Store them in a dry place.
- Do not store in a humid place (moisture is not good for any jewelry)
- Store them separately.
- Keep your silver away from chemicals and acidic food.
- Take your jewelry off when you are cooking or showering.
- Clean your jewelry regularly with silver polishing cloth.
If you follow these simple steps, your jewelry will last you a lifetime.
KEEP IN MIND
Extra care is recommended for jewelry with rose gold, yellow gold or black gold plating as the plating or coating will fade over time.
Proper storage requires mandatory precautions so store all the pieces separately. In case you are storing earrings, make sure to store them individually in separate containers or bags.
NO- NO: wooden storage or cardboard boxes, beauty products (moisturizer, hair spray, deodorant, perfume etc)
Store them away with boxes that have soft cloth cover like velvet jewelry boxes. These are proven to be the best storage for any 925 silver jewelry. Velvet cloth prevents moisture formation and maintain a good temperature for stored jewelry. These are also super cute for personalization.
HOW TO CLEAN YOUR 925 SILVER RINGS
When it comes to care, cleaning comes equally important to make sure you keep your ring safe. We all have heard of many different methods of cleaning silver, since it is so widely used. Best solution I've tried so far are found in my kitchen. Let's go basic!
DIY SILVER CLEANING SOLUTION
- Hot water + baking soda + salt (all time favorite!)
- Water + white vinegar + baking soda
- Toothpaste + soft bristle toothbrush
Choose one above. Soak your silver for 5 minutes. Polish and clean it with a soft bristle toothbrush. Dry your silver with a soft cloth or silver cleaning cloth. Then BAM! Your ring is clean again.
If you don't want to mess with DIY solution, make sure you keep a silver cleaning cloth, cleaning solution and silver polishing solution handy to make cleaning easier every time. It will save you from all the effort of taking it to the jewelry shop again and again to get it professionally cleaned.
Daily or weekly. It all depends on how often you use it. If you wear them daily like I do, then you’ll have to clean it daily as well.
If you have any vintage pieces or rings that you have not used in a while, make sure to take them out as well and clean them.
EVENTS TO TAKE OFF YOUR 925 SILVER RINGS
I know it’s hard to take these babies off our fingers but hey, you gotta do it once in a while. To make sure your silver ring does not get dull, take them off when you are doing the following:
- Hot showers
- Getting any beauty treatment
- When cooking or preparing food
- While doing your makeup or applying lotion
- During other household chores
Although it might seem to be a whole lot of stuff to do to take care of your 925 silver ring, it's actually very simple and easy.
Silver itself is a soft metal and can’t be used alone to make it into a ring or jewelry. Instead, it is mixed with some hard metal, like copper. However, always look for the 925 or 92.5 silver marking. This is commonly referred to as sterling silver. This means that you are getting an alloy that is containing 92. 5 or 92 percent silver in it. While it's always smart to look for the marking or 925 stamp, make sure you are buying your ring from a trusted store. I bet you’ve seen a whole lot of 925 silver rings being sold all over the net at such low price, just be careful and do your research. Cheap silver will tarnish and will turn your finger green.
Alright, nobody got time for reading all these stuff so I don’t want to bore you any further. If you follow these recommended tips, sterling silver care is incredibly easy. These simple methods will surely help you prolong the longevity, sparkles and beauty of your rings for years to come.
